In this video from FreeSchool, we explore the concept of symmetry and how to apply it in our everyday lives.
Symmetry is all around us! It occurs regularly in nature and is used in art, design, and especially with math in the field of geometry.
There are many type of geometrical symmetry. But today we are only going to focus on the simplest form, Reflection Symmetry
Reflection Symmetry
Sometimes called line symmetry or mirror symmetry, reflection symmetry is when an object is reflected across a line, like looking in a mirror.
The face mentioned before is an example of reflection symmetry. Here are some more examples of reflection symmetry.
The line of symmetry does not have to be vertical; it can go in any direction. Also, certain objects, like a square or a circle, can have many lines of symmetry.
If you want to introduce the concept of symmetry to you children or students, or if you just need a little more info on the subject, THIS is the video for you!
Explore Symmetry at home
A great way to explore the concept of symmetry with your children is through everyday live. Find everyday objects in your home that showcases symmetry and have some fun by asking your kids to explain why these objects are symmetrical.
